The Artist
Hello! I’m Elsie and I’m the human behind Elsie Red Handmade (ERH). I design and craft every piece of the jewelry you see here by hand and with love and care. I cherish every aspect of the process that contributes to ERH, from designing and sourcing materials to making, photographing, and packaging your orders. ERH is my creative passion, and I’m grateful for kind souls like you who resonate with my style and aesthetics.
When I’m not playing with gemstones and gold fill wires, I’m a full-time researcher in the power industry. I live in Houston, Texas, with my husband and our two children.
A few fun facts about me:
- I’m an identical twin, with my sister and I born just one minute apart.
- I moved across the globe from Taiwan to the US in 2013 as an exchange student and have lived here ever since.
- While I have always preferred savory snacks over sweets, my taste changed after becoming a mother.
The Art
After graduating from grad school and finding a job, I started ERH in the summer of 2016 as a hobby. Little did I know it would evolve to a serious passion. I now incorporate 14K gold fill wires and high quality gemstones, including rose cut and faceted stones, into my work. I use cold techniques, meaning I shape wires through bending, wrapping, and hammering without using a torch to heat up metals. Garnet, Sapphire, and Tourmaline are among my favorite gemstones, and prong setting is my current favorite setting method!

I love Mozambique garnet, and this is one of the prettiest I've seen. I love how Elsie framed out the main stone. Her use of Swarovski crystals as accent on the chain just adds to the beauty. It truly makes this necklace one I will be proud to hand down to my daughters and granddaughter. In fact, all three women are going thru my jewelry, many things made by Elsie, already and putting their names on pieces, and I'm not even dead yet! If course, they don't mean to hurry things a long, but they are imagining wearing these different items with their own wardrobes some day, and I think it's funny but their dad doesn't. Every natural stone in the accessories Elsie creates has the warm Texas sunshine inside. They shine gently on the skin of whoever wears them, regardless of age, gender, nationality, or race. Her accessories are also loved by a lot of fans in Japan. Some designs look cute with kimono and traditional colors!

I found Elsie’s ring on Etsy a few days before Christmas. It was exactly what I was looking for, however, because it was for my 13-year-old granddaughter. I really wanted to have it to give to her on Christmas Day. Elsie went over and above to make sure it was sent priority mail that day and I received it in plenty of time for Christmas and it was beautiful. I would definitely order from her again without any hesitation.
Loved the little pendant. I wasn't aware of how small the bail was on it, so I had to return it so the chain could be included. The seller was awesome about it, and it's already being shipped back to me.
